Spa originates from the Latin word spargere, meaning to pour forth, scatter or sprinkle. Native Americans, Persians, Babylonians, Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans all believed in the curative powers of mineral waters. Their bathing rituals or ceremonies performed in a particular spring, well, or rivers were thought to evoke physical and spiritual purification.
While modern day spas have significantly evolved since pre-historic times, at Body Beautiful Spa, we’ve always believed in “Salus Per Aquam,” Latin for “health through water.” It should be no surprise that we are drawn to water’s nurturing effervescence in our desire to bathe, swim, soak and heal. Every living cell in our body is made up of water and surrounded by water. Every one of our body's tissues and organs, as well as our body's daily sustaining process, such as thinking, nerve function, blood circulation, digestion, and elimination, requires water in order to function properly. Skin is intricately tied to the overall health of your body. When your body is properly hydrated, you'll look better and feel better.
Dehydration leads to so many unpleasantries in your body from dry skin to over worked kidneys possibly leading to kidney stones and even urinary tract infections. A great way to monitor you hydration is to look at your urine. If it isn’t clear, you’re not drinking enough water! Exercise is a compliment to water hydration. During exercise the body sweats and the water your rehydrate with penetrates deep through the skin, tissues and into the bloodstream. Here the water’s healing benefits are in action eliminating toxins and stress, leaving your body clean inside and out. Dehydrated skin can also lead to signs of premature aging eventually leading to wrinkles, and if it’s not treated properly, it has the potential of causing some health conditions internally as well as externally. Remember, 6-8 eight ounce glasses of water a day but for those who workout or spend a good amount of time outside need to increase that amount. Increased water output requires increased water input.
Here in Arizona the environmental effects of our dry heat can be very damaging to our skin. Proper skin care is essential. A quality anti-aging serum, a dehydration mask, as well as an enriching moisturizer in your skincare regimen, in addition to regular moisturizing facials and body wraps, can make all the difference.
